Consistently ranked as one of the tastiest handmade cigars in the world with an abundant variety of shapes and styles, Royal Jamaica is again being made in Jamaica. Transferred to the Dominican Republic in 1988 after Hurricane Gilbert destroyed the factory in Kingston, Consolidated Cigar (now called Altadis U.S.A.) has opened a new facility in Maypen, Jamaica and production began in late 1996. The filler is predominately Jamaican grown tobaccos, with a secret family additive applied during the fermentation process. The Mexican binder combined with the Java wrapper results in a unique, spicy flavor. A dark Mexican maduro wrapper gives that series a rich taste (also thanks to the Cameroon binder) that has a hint of sweetness. The Mexican leaf is heated with steam and aged two weeks to result to result in a deep brown hue.
